So as 2011 comes to an end I thought I would do a summary of what has happened this year.

This year started off with taking part in the "Show me your Munny" show hosted by Toitoy down in Cape Town, I did not attend as I had wanted to, but it went well, the custom I did is still available for purchase.

After that I had a really slow month or two, and after some design work for A Sitting Duck and having a chat to David I decided to try and see if Vinyl Destination would be willing to sell my customs and other art work from their on-line store, and this went very well, sold a bunch of the customs I had put up and found out I had a collector of my work, this was wicked awesome.

Then some sad business had to be dealt with in the form of my former car Nelly, she was falling apart and I was unable to get her repaired as I was broke at the time, bleh. So I landed up selling her and feeling bad about doing so. In the end I used some of the money I got from her to buy a new PC seeing as the one I was using was really getting old and struggling to keep up with the work load I was putting on her. The new pc rocks! only problem I had is that now that I had a PC that could play some games I got really distracted by it.

Then the came the time for me to decide what must be done seeing as I was still unemployed, I did a odd of demolishing a building(that I never got the money for...), and then came the really sad point where I realised I had to move away from my home in Bloemfontein to a little place called Hell or as the locals call it Queenstown.

In the first month of being here I got a job (not something I would have chosen, but apparently must be done)

and I also headed up to Johannesburg for Street Cred 2011 along with Vinyl Destination and Kronk, this has to be the highlight of the year for me, meeting up with everyone I have been interacting with on-line for years, was also great for meeting up with some new people and doing some networking. Got some wicked toys, art prints and Tees from Kronk.

A couple of weeks after this I went and rolled a car, was not fun at all... I also was not speeding so not sure what happened just rolled and flipped, not wanting to do that ever again.

Got a very fun Commission from one of my Twitter followers and had some fun working on it.

Also decided to get hold of the guys at Toy2R and see if we could do some work together... keep an eye out in 2012 *wink*.

SO that was my 2011 in a nutshell... 2012 will bring some new challenges and experiences and I am rather looking forward to a year that I will be pushing myself in my art and toy design.

Zombie Dunny Commission

Hello all, I have been waiting to put this up for the last few weeks.
But I decided that I would not ruin the surprise of the toy for the person who got it for his birthday, Happy Level Up day btw.

So I was asked to do a custom zombie dunny, had so many ideas with green zombies flashing through my mind, and then i read that it kinda had to look like the guy and be brown... challenge accepted! So has to look like a zombie version, have "dead" eyes, the words "CREATE" ( the "model" has it as a tattoo on his arm) and glasses.

I went through a few designs before landing on this face design, and actually painted the body in a different way before I finished with this one.The words "CREATE" was origanly going to go over the chest on a shirt design, until I decided to sculpt ribs and there was no ways i was going to do that so I thought its a tattoo why not make it a tattoo? the glasses were a real paint, took 23 tries to make them, when I was taking the photos I put the glasses on my chair and packed away the gear... I sat on them, its a terrible sound when you hear a crunch and you know exactly what it is, worked on another pair of glasses for the next 4 hours after that, ended up getting the 6th pair right and then decided to make another one just as a spare incase it breaks in postage.

Had some fun with the packaging, painted a box black and went at it with red paint and a hard bristle brush (sorry Kronk, I know you are not a fan of blood splatter, hehe), while that dried I used a sealer and sealed the Zombie into a Dunny foil (adds effect see, like a blind box).

Next morning I head off to Postnet to post it... morons! the gave me a tracking number and then changed it... took two and a half weeks to get there, it got there TODAY! the day it was meant for. Lost my temper and moaned like crazy, will go in an apologise to the people that gave poor service, just seems you have to complain on hellopeter before they respond.

I didn't want to let this custom go, really wanted to keep it in my collection, but could not.
On another note, how cool is it that this guys girlfriend got him a custom dunny for his birthday?
Must be one of the few guys that has a girlfriend that indulges the vinyl obsession, Good on ya!

STR CRD With Vinyl Destination & Kronk.

Konichiwa, yeah that's right.

This past weekend I finally got to hang out with Vinyl Destination and Kronk, been wanting to do this for a long time, all the chats on twitter just did not cut it.

So on Thursday night I was meant to head to JHB (Johannesburg) for the STR CRD event, but the bus was late as usual, however this bus decided to be 6 hours late so I was ready to head home but the time the bus arrived, I had actually left to head home, car was started and moving forward when I saw it pull up. yeah the bus trip was utter rubbish, took forever to get there with only one stop on the 12 hour drive, lucky for me I had two seats to myself so I could pretty much just spread out over them and snooze.

Alright now for the event. So on Saturday morning I got up nice and early and went to have some Wimpy breakfast to fuel my body for a long day! Took longer than I had expected to find the street where it was taking place. after getting there and sneaking past security because I could not get hold of Vinyl Destination to let him know I was there and that I needed a ticket to get in, anywho got past the guy and was trying to figure out where the heck to go when I hear "Mitch" and it was Simon (Vinyl Destination) no idea how he knew who I was but yeah, he was carrying a box so thought ok let me go grab my bag of customs and head in the direction that he went.... not a good idea, I got lost yet again and had to ask the security guy for directions -_-, I got up stairs to where the store was and finally got to meet Simon without a box in the way, I was expecting to see Kronk there but he was elsewhere so I had to wait, however I did get to meet @Willie_Willie and his wife, that was really awesome meeting up with guys that I chat to on twitter, had a great chat to him about some vinyl and then lost in rock-paper-scissors-lizard-spock, this was all because we both wanted the same Kronk print and this was the way to decide... ok well I suggested this but it did not really happen and I conceded to let Willie get that print ;).

While standing there and watching Simon do all the hard work, (man this was bugging me, wanted to help set up, but was just getting in the way so just let him do his thing) things started to get busy as hell, still setting up and people just started to come and look at what the hell these "Pokemon" things were. I thought ok while he is doing all this I would show Willie my customs, he seemed to like them. Anyways so my biggest collector @Mwolf came out, I did not recognise him (sorry about that), and was busy with something when I heard my name "Reddprime" come up in conversation and turned around to see Simon speaking to someone and saying well he is here.... haha first time I have felt like I was for a lack of a better term 'mini-celeb' and was speechless that someone was actually there to see my work and chat to me. Was really awesome to meet him and talk to him about my work and seeing just how much he really enjoyed it.

Finally Sir Kronk showed up and I got to meet him after putting his Ottoman (did I spell that right?) down the wrong way around -noob mistake- I got to say hi to him and mrs Kronk who is really awesome too. this is where it went all crazy! people all over looking at toys for the first time and buying Dunnys', this was great seeing people that had no idea what these things were just getting addicted right there.

I was surprised at the amount of love my customs were getting during the day and especially how much The Fish Walker was getting, did not expect it at all so was great!

I bought so many toys that my bag was overweight when I got on the bus back but that's for later. ok so I could write a really long post about this but will just keep it short because the rest is just about people coming to look at toys and making loads of new contacts with some really great people. The guys from Swatch and Exposure Gallery were great company to talk to as the night went on, and they were good tom complain to as well... non of use had brought any seats. Now there was also this amazing Teenager @dadamarshfellow who makes miniature sneakers from air-dry clay, this things are insane, follow him on twitter and have a look.

So I geeked out and bought a Kronk - Wingnut AP just so I could get the limited print and get the toy signed, but I am so glad I did now. Was great talking to him when we finally got a bit of time, loads of advice about toy designs and complements about my customs (he now has a reddprime custom in his collection - HELL YEAH!) so this was one of the highlights of the day, having a guy that's work is something that motivates me to push my work to the next level who actually turns out to like mine? wicked. I was going to just give him a custom but he traded me for a print and one of his new tee's from the Klothing range, he gave me 2 more tee's later in the evening, I was well pleased at this.

Finally got my hands on the HellBoy that Toy2R made, traded it for a custom dunny with Simon so he also has a reddprime custom in his collection now, he will also soon have a custom based on the Vinyl Destination logo, this one is for all the help he has given me in the last year/s like selling my toys on his site and letting me hang out with him at STR CRD, really think that he and the store will go far in the vinyl scene in SA.

After the event I saw a sticker left on the wall where Exposure Gallery had their stall and just had to doodle on it, a skyline with no monster? What kind of thing is this? now there is a monster destroying it instead, just the way it should be.

on another note get ready to see more work coming from me, this weekend has reminded me just why I want to be working in this scene and creating these art pieces. So thank you to everyone that was at STR CRD and a BIG THANX TO KRONK AND SIMON!

Optimus Prime sucker punched the Green Lantern

So this week I finally got around to watching Sucker Punch after missing it at the cinema, was only on the circuit for 4days or something silly like that.
I must say that after waiting more than a year to see it, I was really expecting more from the movie... I mean sure the effects were insane, some of the scenes I had to re-watch because they just looked so insane, but I did think the story was rubbish.
Also got around to watching Thor and X-Men: First class, thought they were great, loved the way that X-Men was done and it had a great soundtrack , Thor was good, pity that they tried to get so much done in a short amount of space, add another 40 minutes to the movie and expand on the characters and their relationships... I mean it was as if Thor met the girl and in a day was a entirely new person, that didn't go down to well with me, but other than that it was brilliant, did really enjoy they portrayed Loki, was great.

This week I watched two movies that I was super excited about, Transformers 3 and The Green Lantern.
Seeing as I watched GL first I will let you know what I thought first.
I was worried that DC Comics (I am a DC man) would mess up another hero by trying to make a movie about him, look at what they did to Superman Returns and the really rubbish Batmans they made before Batman begins. But they managed to pull it off, I am grateful as I really like Hal Jordan from the comics. I think that Ryan Reynolds pulled off the character well and l love the way that the effects were done, was brilliant, Mark Strong as Sinestro = awesome! and they left the end open for a sequel yay!

Now Transformers 3 was something I wanted to see in 3D but not paying R80 just to see it so stuck with 2D, and now I wish I had gone 3D, wow!
The final instalment of Transformers, it had to be better and more epic than the first, especially after the second one was trash! I blame it all on the annoying twin Autobots and Fox, I am glad they did not include her, her voice drove me mad.
The new actress was much better, not great though. But all together it was epic, I was just in awe of the effects used and the story was by far the best of the 3. I must admit that I am really sad that this was the last one as I am a Huge Transformers fan, I have watched every season until the Transformers Animated junk, because there is no ways I can make myself ruin the original series with that junk.

Go out and watch these movies, well except for sucker punch unless you like some crazy effects.

Update

Heya everyone, I seem to keep forgetting that I have a blog that I need to keep updated, sorry about that.
So in the last few weeks I did some demolition work that was not much fun and that nearly killed me a few times, almost fell off the roof (this is a 2 and a bit story building) and then when I was down on the ground a roof thing (that big A-frame like thing) decided to fall on me and pin me down on a pile of bricks. That hurt like hell and made it a mission for me to get up. Once I had finally managed to free myself from this I then had a nail decide it would go through my index finger. So that is when I decided to call it a day and head home.
Next day was kinda more of the same. Very windy and that makes it really hard to keep your eyes open with all the dust blowing around. So what happened? I got dust in my eyes while I was busy swinging a hammer and got my hand, so then I switched hands and the same thing happened so again I decided it was time to all it a day before I break a finger or something like that.
Next week was better because I didn't go there, instead I was doing some holiday club with the church, that was rather fun but more tiring than spending a entire doing demolition...
Got a bit of work done in this time, some designs for A Sitting Duck and some other clients, did some design work on a Linkin Park cover too. Not that they used it in the end, but I did submit it so yeah.
It seems set that I will be heading back home to the family the end of July seeing as Bloemfontein does not want to let me find a job.
On the bright side I did manage to sell some toys to my first official collector, its an awesome feeling knowing that someone out there really likes the hard work that I put into the customs, thanx to Simon at Vinyl Destination for putting up the RPC's on the store. I also seem to have some inspiration and motivation to do more art and to do it bigger and better from 'somewhere'.

Update May 17

Greetings all, So after a few weeks it's time for an update!
We managed to collect a grand total of R0.00 for the Nelly thing, but luckily that is not an issue any longer seeing as the death trap formally known as Nelly has been sold.
Took about a week for me to go around all the car dealerships and see what I could get for her or what I could trade it in for.
Man was that not fun at all, never had to do anything like that in my life, was a scary thing to do, but no it is done and I learnt a thing or two.

Now I am hunting for a new car and hoping to find one soon seeing as being carless is really not fun.
I have been thinking what kind of car would I like? I have to remind myself that I cannot get a muscle car or anything that will need a ton of cash to run. That doesn't mean I cannot wish for certain cars though, I still would love a Mustang or a Charger. But again they are muscle and would go through petrol super fast. Another thought was the old Kombi that I love and one day want to make into my mobile studio, not an option because they are really old and I don't think I could get it to look like I would like for a long time.
Last night however I let me Geek get the better of me and started looking for a Delorean DMC-12 (yeah that's right the awesome one from the Back To The Future, movies.) Saw a couple of nice looking ones on Google images but the only thing that sucks it that there seems to be none in South Africa, how sad is that?

The hunt continues!

On the job front I have not had much luck either, applied for three jobs in the last week and have not yet had any feedback from any of them. Been looking all over SA and not just in Bloemfontein, so if you are in Cape Town and any other major cities and know of a place looking for a design or art teacher ect. Let me know.

Hello Everyone!
I have not updated the blog in a while; have not had much to say on any updates.
However now I am trying to save my car Nelly and you can help get her back up and running.

Boring update #2

Hello everyone! Seems I forgot to update my blog last Friday... many apologies.
Anyways nothing really interesting happened last week (well that I can remember).
Since the week that I cannot remember I have won at table tennis and walked 50 km for Cansa,
Ok so the walk took place on Saturday and I went to set up at 3:45pm and started to walk from 6:30 pm until 5:30am, that is a long time to walk and my legs and everything was killing me! But at least I had good company as I walked around and around and around ;) thanks Heather and Michelle, they put up with my constant moaning about all the walking we had to do.
Oh yes! I forgot that last week Duane left for Australia, I am not happy about this, who the hell am I going to play Playstation 3 with and take my PC to when I break it again?
So in this week I tried to play some squash left handed, didn't go well and broke my already broken racket / racquet however you spell that thing. Had to patch it up again yesterday, will see if it holds this time around.
On the toy side of my life I started to work on the head of the Batman Trikky custom for Hellovinyl, there is a GIANT hole in its head where I decided to cut the ears off and rotate them...BAD MOVE! Now I'm trying to fill it, I have finally decided that I am going to make it a magnetic face mask and how I am going to make the belt. Should start with the sculpting tomorrow and have it ready to be primed on Monday (if I am not too lazy this weekend). Also have ideas for 3 3 inch Dunny's and now that I have some paint again I can actually get to them and see what I can do, on that note does anyone know how to add colour to resin? I'm using the normal hardware store stuff and need it to be black but still kinda transparent.
Now onto the exciting news... Reddprime custom are now available on http://vinyldestination.co.za under the custom toy section, so please go and buy some of my customs so I can make some more.
Hopefully I will have some more exciting news next week and have gotten some work that I can show you.

Boring Update #1

Ahoy!
I didn't call you all Earth Monkey's for a change how does that feel?
Anyways I thought I would do a update a week even if i have nothing exciting to blog about just as a way to get my thoughts across.

This is Boring Update #1

Nothing really exciting has happened this week, so this is going to be short.
Um the only things I can think about is that I played some squash, hurt my knee and watched some movies and series.
I have noticed that I am struggling to stay focused on anything I do, this is a problem!
Seeing as I should be working on a few design and ideas, but the Job hunting has kinda filled my mind and I can't think of anything else for too long...

See what I mean? All that time I zoned out and thought what I was going to do.
I applied for a job at the National Museum (yes I want to work in a museum, I think that it will be some fun) it's for a Fossil Preparation position, I might not know much about fossils but I can work in detail, also there is some field work involved so that should be loads of fun :D

Oh yeah I did some painting, if you call painting a red circle and letting the paint run down the canvas painting yesterday, felt good, until I forgot that the paint was yet and put some sketch books onto it. I am currently taking some photos of my customs to send to VinylDestination.co.za to put up for sale on the site (go buy some of my toys), in the time that I am not doing that I have been trying to figure out how to sculpt the head of Batman and looking at some ideas for three other Dunny customs.
I watched the Green Hornet and it was HORRIBLE! How can you release such a stupid movie? Atleast I managed to watch something that was brilliant and the was Scott Pilgram vs. The World and I will watch it again after typing this, and the episode of V I am watching at the moment is finished (new series not the one that gave me nightmares when I was a child).

Employment Update

My Fellow… wait no never mind. EARTH MONKEYS!
Thought I would give you all an update on the job situation.
Still no success I am afraid. I have had two interviews in the last 3 weeks, both went horribly for some unknown reason…
Ok so I have s slight feeling I do know the reason for them going so bad, and that is Adobe Illustrator and I are mortal enemies, I have tried to patch things up with it but it just hates me and won't let me learn its ways. I am not sure when Bloemfontein decided to switch over from Corel Draw to Illustrator but they really could have let me know.
So now I am out of ideas, trying to learn the program is giving me a head ache, the silly pen tool must have a "curve" option like Corel Draw does.
On the business plan side, it is pretty much as far as it was last year, for those of you that don't know how far it was it is pretty much just an idea at the moment and I cannot seem to get past this point (anyone feel like helping me out?). I did design a few logo's for it, they look cool but the names are all so silly.
Thinking its time to start looking (seriously looking) for something in another city maybe, any suggestions? Drop me a mail.

Farewells

Greetings all you people…
So been awhile since my last blog post so thought I would put some stuff into one.
So the Show Me Your Munny show is in a few days, was really hoping to make it down to Cape Town so that I could attend it, but can't seem to find anyone that is heading that way and back so I shall not be there L.
No onto some sad news that's been bugging me for a few weeks, I think I have become less sensitive to bad new (deaths and suffering.) Sure as a Jedi this should not be an issue, I would quote Yoda now but I am not in the mood to think that hard.
Onto the sadness! A few weeks ago a friend of my Natasha passed away, sad thing it is, we were close, not lately however. As far I can recall the reason I have the name REDD is because she was tired of typing out my entire username on Yu-Gi-Oh.co.za (Full nick is Red-Eyes_Darkness-Dragon) and it kinda just stuck around until I added a Prime to the end and got to what I now am. So I was in shock to learn of her death, was kinda sad but got over it in a few hours, I thought ok maybe it was because we had not spoken in a while, still did bug me that it didn't affect me more than that.
Last week I learnt of another friend of mine passing, Graham, now this one should have affected me a lot more seeing as I grew up with him and we were good friends and spoke often. I had no idea he had passed until someone asked me if I had been to the funeral on the same day! Again I felt shock and was sad that he had passed but also did not affect me at all.
So I thought about it for awhile and it struck me… Is it possible that the current online social craze (facebook , twitter and mxit) has made less connected to people? I am sure that If I had been in contact with these two more than chatting often that I would have felt more pain and sadness .

Now onto something else that involves death, is my puppy (ok so she is 7 years old) Neleh that is being put down today, I am not very happy about this, she is my favourite pet ever, cute overweight dog. She has been suffering with back problems brought on from her size, after trying all kinds of meds and diets to get her to be healthier it was decided to put her down after she couldn't walk.
Sure it is for the best and she won't be in pain anymore but I am going to miss her like crazy.

Ok so that's the sad blog post over with.

Next one will be less sad.

I Want Your Munny

So I have done a few posts on my Chappies Custom already, but this is more info about the show than just my piece.

ToiToy moved into a new store and this is custom show to celebrate the new store.
The "I Want Your Munny" show will be taking place from the 10th of February.
"I Want Your Munny" will feature some of South Africas's best artists… (yeah I'm in that list it seems, wicked).

I am looking forward to seeing what customs come out of this show, have yet to see any other than mine.
Some of the artists taking part are Jordan Metcalf, Adam Hill, Emma Cook, Ben Johnston, Cassandra Johnson, Jade, Kronk, Sindiso, Paul Senyol, Bruce Mackay, Simon Berndt, Shaun Swainland, Theory One, Sam Breakspear, Reddprime, Faith, Cashrill, Bison and Daniel Ting Chong.

Hopefully this is the first of many South African shows.

Custom Chappies Munny

Ahoy all you Earthlings! hope you all had a happy Christmas and all that.

Here is a WIP of my custom for the Toitoy show coming in Feb 2011.
In case you have no idea what this is, it is Chappies, the bubblegum.

I have been through a few different ideas for the face and all of them I hate! so i have decided (i think), got the idea to leave the face off after looking for some munny ideas and seeing that hold on it didn't need one, for some reason i was thinking that just because it has a head and arms doesn't mean it has to have a face and all that.

So now its pretty much just to do some final touches on the toy itself and get the chewed gum base to work.

No its not going to be real gum! i did chew alot of em and make a base, how ever i am going to make a mold of it and cast it from resin to its not so gross.

Hope you like the design.

African Munny concepts

Greetings! So I am busy or soon will be, working on a Munny for a show thing being held by ToiToy. The theme is Africa, I did not want to go for the usual 'African' stereo type and design so decided I would go for things that are south african, wanted to do a braai, but decided against that idea in the end. I still cannot decide what to go for, so please help me out and let me know what you would like to see.

So after getting the new logo designed a while ago and redesigning the site, I was still not happy about one little thing... I wanted a symbol that I could use instead of the logo ( hate plastering it all over ) I tried a few variations with the character that's part of the reddprime logo but it just didn't seem right, so I gave up and while I was working on the site I saw my "we aaaarr pirates" design and messed around with it in photoshop and got this out.

Now I know the skulls thing is over done and all that, but is this really a skull? I don't think so, not sure what it is, seems to have some kind of an emotion I have not figured out yet. However this is not my symbol, the skew pirate thingy ;), it makes a cool background for Twitter and also for the site design, bet you didn't see it in the background did you?

Hi, I thought I had blogged about this, I was wrong.

Introducing the new look reddprime.com, after designing the current site and never being happy with it, I have finally designed one that I like enough to actually use and promote. The blend between a colourful and the sleek look was something I was battling with, I could get one or the other, and then I decided to smash them together and I got this one out.

Designing your own website is al harder than designing someone else's, why? Well I think if yours sucks, as a artist/designer how are you going to let people see what you can do? Its what they see before the go into your portfolio, if I see a horrible site I don't look further.

I am looking forward to seeing this go live, leaving all I'm Marius's (Red Raven Softworks) hands. I will post the images of the original two designs that got smashed together on my flickr page some time, just pop in and have a look.

Hi, so I'm sure everyone has seen me moaning about my car Nelly, she was once a super great car...

That was until a few months ago when she decided "I'm going to start breaking now and there is nothing you can do about it!", well there is something I can do about it, but way to expensive.

Was told to "drive it home and park it until you bring it back here to get fix, or its going to kill you or really hurt you." Scary stuff!, but alas I must keep using her, seeing as I have no other car and its going to cost a small fortune.

So now I have not overturn, and drive slowly to make sure nothing happens.

Greetings Earthlings, been out of range ( other galaxies don't have access to our webness ) but I'm back, and I didn't bring any souvenirs...

So I am busy packing all my junk into storage vessels, or boxes for all you Earth monkeys. Its not going well, mainly because I am lazy and I don't want to pack or move, but I must... I do hope it is a short term thing, I prefer living on my own.

Because of this my toy customing and such is on hold until its al done.

Yo people of Earth, so I showed you the Batman custom I'm doing for Mark (hellovinyl) and here is a WIP photo for all of you to enjoy.

Had to make a few changes but having fun with this guy. The black spray paint I used coated the figure so nicely, I have used the exact brand and colour before but this time the results are much better, has a slight texture to it.

Yesterday tragedy struck the Vinyl Toy Community as it was announced on Facebook that awesome blogger Andy Heng from ToysREvil had a minor stroke.This dude is the most tireless blogger out there, dedicating all his time to bringing us the latest news on everything from Vinyl Toys to Comic books, and is a huge inspiration to myself and many others. His status at the moment is that he is still under observation and the next few days are critical. The Community has come together in a huge way, this Toy Community is one of the strongest out there, and there is a list of people who are willing to help in many different ways. Cris Rose is putting together a list of people willing to donate figures or cash to help pay for medical bills, and many artists have offered to donate all proceeds from sales to this cause, with the latest being Argonaut Resins offering up some Tuttz OG Albinos to the cause. This is a true tragedy in the community, but it warms the heart to see everyone come together like this with offers to help, and from HelloVinyl I offer my thoughts and prayers to Andy and his family. So finally got to playing Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on the PS2, played it on the psp, nds and ps3 when it came out. Still a wicked game just a pity I finished it in a day, would be great it was a bit longer.

One thing I forgot about in this game is Maris Brood, think she could at the top of my list for sci-fi crushes, don't know who would win between her and Aayla Secura for my top spot or in a battle would be good to see.

Anyway back to the Force Unleashed, I saw some trailers for the Force Unleashed 2 and that looks insane! Can't wait to see it in action.

Greetings Earth monkeys!

I spotted a trailer about the new Pokémon Apokélypse movie on youtube, this is one of those 'let's take a wicked awesome anime and see what happens if we do a live action, they should have learned from Dragonball Evolution. However they didn't learn a think, this looks just as bad if not worse... I will be surprised if they had a small budget seeing as the franchise is still going strong. The animation in the movie looks horrible! The Pickachu looks like its been hit with a sledge hammer, and that is before the battle starts, the actors are not so great, I at first thought that Shia LaBeouf was playing Ash Ketchum, but its some new guy.

Enough of my ranting here is what milkandcookies.com had to say on the matter.

Celadon City hasn't been the same since the Gyms closed down. Pokémon fighting has gone underground, and the sport has gotten a taste for blood. Ash, Misty, and Brock have been forced deep into the city's seedy underbelly to keep training, but the Pokémon aren't the only ones in danger.

Now, Ash must choose to either become a master in the grim world of illegal pokémon fighting, or make a desperate stand to free them all from the criminal grip of Rocket Industries.

Pokémon Apokélypse is a fan-trailer responding to the common trend of 'dark and gritty' reboots of popular franchises.

Now after reading all that and seeing the trailer, will I still want to watch this and get the DVD? The answer... Hell Yes! I love Pokémon. I wonder when they will make Pokémon Online, because that I play that.

Yo! As I am sure most of you know I am not really good at finding a job I'm happy at or at the moment finding one ;) , I have a solution!

For the past few years I have had the idea of starting my own company, but never settled on an idea, first it was a sweet shop, then a skate park, toy shop, the list is endless. However I think it is time for me to get a business-plan together and try get some finances to back it up, I am planning on my own art studio, I say art because it is a broader term than "design studio".

The style of company I want is very similar to Glyph in Johannesburg blended with LoWorks in Japan, the problem is I am not nearly as good as Riki at art or Craig at the way he run team Glyph.

Oi! Been a while since I posted anything.

My exploits since my last post are pretty good, went to Cape Town for a week where the "thicker" air tried to kill me when I was running, then I came back home and got re-addicted to gaming.

I was once addicted to gaming Eternal Lands was my online game, loved it, however I am a console gamer and not a pc gamer (guess its because my pc starts moaning when I try play empire earth2!) I stopped playing everyday in 2009 :). But now its back! I blame Duane for this, going and buying Screenzilla! 42" of TV, and then hooking the PS3 up, now we are currently playing "Resistance: Fall of Man" fun game love a first person shooter on a console! My thumbs go crazy and aim on their own ;). This is loads of fun, but I'm not sure what the heck the things we are shooting are, aliens, mutants or zombies? So now they are alien-zombies (if you don't like that tough! Its my blog), we managed to drag Hayley into this, in case you don't know Hayley is The Evil Queen of Everything! Loads of fun watching her play, forgets what button does what hehe, we also have Sean, he is good but talks way to much! Just shoot the danm alien-zombies! (Hope he doesn't read my blog).

Now when they don't want to play I am busy with Bad Company, awesome game! Just one question: why do the Russians get blamed for everything in all the games I have played lately?

Greetings, there's so many ways to start this post, but I think ill go with
"A new power is rising!", yeah that sounds good. This new power shall be me... Now I know what your thinking, or atleast I think I do. You are thinking "he has being saying this forever" or " he is always going on abut empires and galactic conquest", both are true I have been saying this for ages.

So what's different this time around? Firstly I'm not just saying that to be funny or to get comments like I usually do. Secondly I'm going to build my empire in the real world and not my own world like I have been.

How am I going to pull it off? Easy start small and then build a Death Star...
Some T-shirt, art prints, mini comic series and finally some resin toys if I can get it all together. However first thing I have to do is to take care of reddprime.com coz I did not do a good job with that design.

Morning! So today I woke up when my phones little red light kept flashing reminding me that I had messages for my birthday.

I am not a fan of birthdays, reminds me of what I didnt manage to achieve in the last year. This year is no different, so many things I did not get done, here is a short list: did not get a toy make, or get a toy with my design. did not finish or start with any of my comic series and have not gotten an awesome job.

On the bright side there is somethings I did get right this year(fewer than the list above):I did get a custom on toysrevil's blog and a load of them on hellovinyl (thanx Mark), was part of the multiverse group show, did some wicked designs for asittingduck, also left a job that was busy killing me and turning me to the darkside...,became an uncle even though I am petrified of babies, I shall teach him the way of being awesome!, remembered I have a super awesome family and great friends :).

Yeah that's my rant for this years aging process done, atleast we don't shed our skins like some alien species do.

Also what I did not do this year I shall achieve in my 22nd year amongst you earth creatures! Might put galactic conquest on hold for the year, but I might not!

SO first time in Cape Town was wicked awesome. :)

Step one: wake up super early at a time I cant remember and get onto the road, firt half of the trip was really fast felt like 3 hours, after a few stop and go's it felt like an eternity to get near Cape Town... FInally got into a place we thought was right, but the GPS had gone haywire and taken us to a place we didnt really want to be in, so we had to trek through the CBD again and finally got to where we were meant to be after about 13 hours.

said hello to every one and tried to stay away from Eli ( I dont really like babies ) and was doing well till the next thing I know he is in my arms, dont know how he got there, think he teleported or something (will ask when he is older), was not to bad except I didnt know what to do and thought I might end up breaking him or something.

Next day, we got up and headed off to the V&A Waterfront, brilliant plae to do some shopping and got to see some more of Cape Town, First stop was ToiToy and it was wicked, so many toys that I wish i could get my Paws on, in the end I got a mini-munny. The ships in the harbour looked like giants compared to the little tour boats, so not a chance I would get onto them. Then we sat down to have some hot dogs and got harrased by some seagulls apparently his name was Goerge and he was great at catching food, then came the danm cannon that gave me a heart attack.

Sunday: cant remember what we did realy... OH!!! wait we tried to get to table mountain again but it was to cloudy so we stopped at the Castle of Good Hope, wow this place is so cool! and I got to play Tour Guide for a day and i really liked it.
So much history in this place and I a sure there is some places in there that they would not let us see, the table in that place is HUGE seats 110 people (can you imagine all that food?), then we left and realized that we had not gone to the bell tower, had a walk on the beach with my big brother and then had a wickedly sinful ice-cream, and DANM this water here is so cold, thought my foot might just break off from the cold... it didnt.

Monday: Nice day, spent it with the family all day, we all pilled into the car and we hit the road, not to sure where we were going so we decided to try and go to the Mountain again, but there was Gale frce winds and it was closed, but we did manage to drive haf way up the mountain. Also went to a Cecil John Rhodes Monument, was so nice, the lion statues look like the lion from our Match Boxes, had a braai after that and realized that I kinda like this Cape Town place and would not mind staying here for a week or two and seeing if I would like to stay here or not (also want to go to the toy workshop), but unluckly for me I have to go back to Queenstown tommorow and then back to Bloem, which I was looking at trying to stay there, but I really dont see why I am staying there anymore.

Also learnt that Lamentins or somthing like that is from Australia. A direct translation from afrikaans to english for this is " Iron Pig " which I love,
I shall rule with a IRON PIG! hehe.

OI!SoI left m job a week ago(I think) and its been great, now is the part where I must find another job so I can get my rent paid and stuff hehe.

I had a semi successful first day of freelancing and have a few GIGs in he pipeline, will see what happens from here on.

currently visiting my family in Cape Town, but i will do a post about that all later, for now I am off to Table Mountain, 1km in the air, inside a little metal cage is not my idea of fun, lets hope i survive.

Reddprime hits us with his latest custom Fatcap, Ro-Man. This little guy has been a long time in the making and is finally complete and came out brilliantly. Originally he had the fur painted on but the effect was not what he desired, so he took some fur and covered the Fatcap to get the real fur look. Ro-Man is from the cult movie Robot Monster, and as you can see from the image from the movie below, Reddprime nailed it on the Ro-Man likeness of the evil alien from the film. My Fatcap custom

so this was actually finished a while ago, and I never got to take photos, but after staring at it for a while I decided I did not like it how it was, the fur was just painted on and didnt look very impressive to me.

So I cut apart a little teddy bear keyring I was giving by some person promoting something or the other and used its fur for the custom.

So i cut and cut away for a few days trying to get it to fit the Fatcap, and could get it right, so I did it in little pieces and this is what came from my labors.

I will be taking better photos later on and posting them too.

Ro-Man is from Robot Monster, Wikipedia says this about the movie:

Robot Monster is a 1953 American science fiction B-movie made in 3-D by Phil Tucker. Sup, Haven't updated the blog for a while, not because I have been busy or the fact that I did not have internet access but mainly because I didn't want to talk to you.

Ok with that out of the way, I would now like to talk to you and let you know what is happening in my world.

So in my world everything is perfect and squishy, however I have to live in the Actual world as well, and that is where it all goes downhill I am afraid, I am really unhappy with it, I think if it was destroyed by Vogons it would make me a lot happier.

Another thing is I think I am going to give up working as a Designer during the day, why you ask? well because I don't like it anymore, I kinda loath it at the moment ( please note that this is not an end to my toys, art and all that) just an end to working for a stupid human.

I have a cool Idea for what I would love to do all day but none of the Ideas i have are Viable for an income, so now I must hunt for something new to do... Any ideas just pop me a comment or a mail.

Anyhow, gotta run .
BTW its raining hard so my car is going to leak as much as my roof just above my TV ( I should move this )

Ahoy!

Hows it going? Been a bit busy doing nothing of late, have not touched a toy or sketched anything for the last week and a little bit.

Terrible I know, but I have kind of hit a really HIGH brick wall with my ideas and so far i have not found a ladder that reaches the top. I am trying to find a gas powered grapple hook, It might work better than a ladder :)

Any way, I will be getting back into some sketching and working on toy customs this week, will be out of action again in two weeks time, as there is a Cansa walk-a-thon thingy that will be taking all of my time on Saturday and Sunday.

Oh yeah, my Bunny TV concept was shot down by KR so I will be going ahead with the mini series, will try get that started when I get back from Cape Town (hopefully I will have some Tofu Dunny's when I get back)

Ahoy there readers,

I watched Avatar this weekend ( I have nt been able to get to watch it before this )
It was freaking amazing, best thing I have seen in ages, the world is so crazy and the creatures that roam them.

I now know why people are getting depressed with not being able to be back of the world and "The People", I myself am starting to wish that I was there and lived among the Neytir at Home Tree.

I actually started to get mad and Human kind when they attacked Home Tree, stupid humans wanting to destroy everything for a little bit of wealth.

Anywho I loved the movie and the world so much that I watched, walked out the cinema and then walked straight back in, thanx for watching with me Angela and for letting me drag you back in to watch it again. Very cool human that one.

So thanx to Mark over at hellovinyl who suggested a mini series, I have come up with a wickedly awesome idea for one :)

As with all my things that are done in more than one and less than mass production there will be 9 in the series.

I had a super weekend! I won the Asimo plush from @freshcharacters (take a look at the site here http://freshcharacters.com ). Very excited to get my paws on it.

Also ate some Chinese food for the first time every Nom Nom Nom, loved it think I will be going back there some time soon. Also had such a lazy weekend away from any work at all!Which was brilliant, needed a break to get my mind reset.

So this week I will be posting some WIP pics of a fatcap custom I am working on.
Based on the Ro-Man from the old movie "Monster Robot" Terrible move but such a funny looking character that I had to make a custom of this.

Anywho its time to get back to work.

New toy customs

OI OI !

SO thought I would pop a update on what I have planned for the rest of the week. First I Have to finish a square head toy i have been making to give away to one of my lucky Twitter followers.

After that i am going to start work in the Gumball machine dunny( its going to look alot different from the original sketch I did) And there is also a Pilot dunny on its way, I did the design for a Lunartik cup of tea custom but nothiing came of it so I decided to skulpt a fighter plane from old toys I had lying around and to paint up a dunny pilot. the jacket is giving me a few little problems but nothing that cant be fixed. Also there is a "Toe Jam" dunny custom that I will have done this weekend along with hi 2 scarfs and a Red and white striped shirt.

Until then I get them done I will keep you posted.

ahoy! so its 2010, meant to be a super year for South Africa and her citizens.... so hows that going for everyone so far? for me it has started badly - no salary payment and back to work at a job i realy hate. but on the bright side there is a entire year that i can look for a new one. what to look forward to from me this year? well for starters loads of tweets-blog posts. also alot of toy customs and one or two of my own toys should be dropping this year. away from they toys i have a animated series that will be awesome and also loads of art prints and new characters. so keep alook out. ke nako - it is time.

I have gotten alot further I just have not taken photos yet.
Unforunetly the arms have had to be glued into position as the paint keeps cracking off when I move them .

Now its just some just ups on the body and to take on the design for the head ( that I have yet to decide on)

its the weekend!

It is finally the weekend! It has been a really long week, so glad it is over now.
Time to relax and create some magic... speaking of magic I am going to a magic show on Saturday night! yay yay! I love magic tricks, also there is alot of puddles around this weekend!

Other than that its some paintings and customs and while I am doing that I am going to be having a Star Trek marathon, should be fun. Need some company though.

Rise of the refrigerators

Sup?

Been lazy and not been working on much more than a few customs and the reddprime.com site, but think its time to get a toy made now, so going to try finish off Kelvin the refrigerator, one prototype for it that I have been working on is carved from balsa wood, but not looking like I want it to, so going to switch over to clay this weekend.

Really hope I can get a good sculpt going and even more that I can make a mold and cast him with ease, I have never gotten this part right before so should be a nice challenge.

Also have two designs I want to put up on patchtogether.com so you had better go vote for them when they are up.

Hmmm I forgot i was going to put progress up.

So yeah the punk panda dunny is complete and has been sent off to Wizard Sleeve Toys.

Along with the panda when a mini canvas and a few reddprime pins, not to mention all the bubble wrap (all three meters of the stuff)

Ahoy!

So I got a few Dunny's last week, decided that i am going to custom 2 of them for now.

One will be a Punk Panda custom, the spikes are giving me a bit of a hard time, but should have them done tomorrow night I hope.

The second custom is very very basic. It is a version of one of my Characters, Claude in his more popular black suit, look out for it, will come with a lollipop(with drool) accessory.

Hi,

today was a weird one for me....

i woke up at around 5am (according to my watch) and got back into bed, I only wake up at 6:15 am. So later when my alarm goes off at 6:15 I get up felling a bit odd, and carried on getting ready for work, but noticed that the morning new on TV was a different program, strange, I got mad and turned off the TV. About 15 min later my boss phones to ask why I am not at work, I said that its 7:10 am and that works only at 8.

all my clocks and cellphones time were out by an hour exactly... i find this very odd seens as I dont remember changing clocks, and we in SA dont have day lights savings.

haha what a way to start a day... It usually takes me 15 min to get to work, today when I woke up and left for work all the roads had decided that they want to be closed for construction ( I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE!) so had to go around town, took 30 min! and then a truck decided to skip a red light, that was fun, here I am minding my own business driving through the intersection and to my right I see a HUGE truck coming right at me, not fun.

See this is what happens when you change your plans!!! stick to your planned route in both driving and in life, or else you get a truck trying to run you down.

Characters in the real world?

Hi.

What do you think about placing digital characters in real world situations?

Seems there are some people that like the idea and then you get those who think that they should not be in such a realistic environment.

Personally, I think characters in the real world rock, I mean who wouldnt want to look out their window and see a Spacemonkey or a GIANT RABBIT? Think it would make life alot more interesting.

Maybe the creatures inhabit a world very similar to our own, if not our own, just without us humans on it? could it work then to place them in a real place?

Anywho, time for me to stop being so lazy and start creating my world for my mates, think they might be getting tired of being in ours and knowing they are from another dimension ;)

So SA is currently being flooded by election campaigns and its everywhere..... surprised it isn't on food packaging :D

Im bored with the posters that have been stuck up everywhere, even though they are diffrent parties, they all look the same... SO I decided to make things a bit more fun with my own campaign , party "We are all innocent". there is going to be 5 peices in the series, busy working on the last 2, and might replace the third one.
